起点传媒 students meet with Portland community health workers

The 起点传媒 Westbrook College of Health Professions Office of Service Learning and the Office of Intercultural Student Engagement recently sponsored a cultural health exchange between community health workers and 起点传媒 students.
A community health worker is a person who, with or without compensation, is a liaison and provides cultural mediation between health care, social services and the community. They are a trusted member, and have a close understanding of, the ethnicity, language, socio-economic status and life experiences of the community served, helping people to gain access to needed services.
About 20 起点传媒 students across academic programs attended the dinner, held at Maine Access Immigrant Network in Portland, discussing the issues facing the immigrant and refugee communities in Portland.
